YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

How often should I see my dentist for an exam and clean?

There is no definite answer as everyone’s mouth and lifestyle habits are unique. Generally speaking, Dr Costa recommends booking an exam and clean at the Creswick Dental Centre every six months as this is a good amount of time to catch any potential dental issues early.

Why might I need x-rays?

For new patients to the Creswick Dental Centre, collating thorough dental records is beneficial to provide the dentist with a comprehensive baseline of your oral health. An essential part of this process is to take X-rays. These X-rays also help the Dr Costa to diagnose current decay or potential oral health problems.

Why do I need to floss?

Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammation in the gums. This disease is relatively high in the Australian adult population and we see it often at the Creswick Dental Centre. It is a problem because it can lead to loss of bone that supports the teeth. The disease is characterised by red, sore, puffy gums that often bleed. It is caused by food getting trapped in pockets around the teeth and these pockets can be deep hard to keep clean. Dr Costa recommends flossing to help prevent further damage because it cleans out these areas of the mouth that a toothbrush cannot reach.

What should I do when I have a toothache?

Toothaches can happen for many different reasons. It is hard for Dr Costa to determine the cause without looking directly in the mouth. It is recommended that if you are experiencing a tooth ache or pain that you contact a dentist to get an appointment as soon as you can. At Creswick Dental Centre we allocate emergency time slots every day so you can be assured that you will always be looked after.

Who makes my dentures?

Dr Costa is not just a dentist he is also a qualified prosthetist. Traditionally dentures are made off site in a dental laboratory by a qualified dental technician or prosthodontist. At Creswick Dental Centre, Dr Costa will be a part of the denture making process from the beginning to end.

Will my health insurance cover dental treatment?

In Australia there are many different Health Funds available and each will vary on price and the level of cover. The Creswick Dental Centre can provide you with an itemised treatment plan to make it easier for you to get an accurate quote directly from your health fund.

When should I start bringing my child to the dentist?

Dr Costa recommends starting dentist visits from the age of 3 to enable them to get used to the dental clinic environment. At this age, children generally have all their baby teeth and can understand instruction. You are welcome to bring your child to the Creswick Dental Centre earlier than this if you wish. We can bring them in and have a ride in the chair. Giving your child a comfortable dental experience early on provides benefits for their future dental experiences.
